Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since March of 2023.

Success also signifies he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
