Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 offences at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who laced sweets with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two children who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight minors and an older person became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.

Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."

The legal counsel said objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained the defendant proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the law enforcement again.

She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
